Apprentices from the Quad-Cities Joint Apprentice Training Committee, consisting of UBC Local 4, Davenport, IA; Local 166, Milan, IL and Local 678, Dubuque, IA, will showcase their skills as they compete against each other in the May 17  annual Union Carpenters Apprentice Contest

The competition will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Carpenter Training Center, 479 27th St. in East Moline, IL.
The event is free and open to the public.

Fourth-year New Jersey apprentices will faceoff against one another in the Union Carpenter Apprentice Skills Competition '08 on Saturday June 14th from 9:00am - 5:00pm at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
The event will also feature construction industry exhibits with the latest in construction technology, tools, materials and services in addition to technical lectures on the installation of ceilings, flooring, metal studs and more.
Pre-registration is strongly recommended.  It includes admission, complimentary lunch, seminars and a chance to win a one-night stay at Harrah's.

Carpenters Local 306 will be holding informational meetings open to all carpenters regardless of their Union affiliation at Spooky’s Pizza, 3320 W. Sixth St., The Dalles, Oregon, on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.
The purpose is to discuss job opportunities and issues pertaining to apprenticeship and training.

Carpenters Local No. 605 at 751 Neeson Road in Marina, CA has an open application procedure in effect for Carpentry Apprenticeships in Monterey, Santa Clara, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties.  Active, qualified applicant lists will be maintained from these applications for work opportunities in these counties.

The Empire State Carpenters Apprenticeship Committee, Region 4 (Rochester), is recruiting carpenter apprentices through January, 20, 2009.  Applications are available from the Union Office at 21 Jet View Drive in Rochester, NY, 9 am to noon, on the third Tuesday of every month.  They must be completed on the premises.
Applicants must:

►Be at least 18 years old - proof required after acceptance into the program.
►Have a high school or equivalency diploma - proof required after acceptance into the program.
Pass a math test and measurement computation test.
Live within Monroe, Wayne, and Livingston Counties and parts of Ontario and Wyoming Counties.
Have a reliable means of transportation to and from work and apprentice school – signed statement required.
Sign a statement declaring they are physically able to do the work.
Pass a drug test, at the committee’s expense, at the time of employment.

The Empire State Carpenters Apprenticeship Committee, Local 11, will conduct a carpenter apprenticeship recruitment from January 3 through December 30, 2008.  Applications will be available at 14 Saw Mill River Rd., Hawthorne, NY and 52 Stone Castle Road, Rock Tavern, Tuesdays and Thursdays,1 - 4 pm
Applicants must:
►Be at least 17 years old.
►Have a high school or general equivalency diploma – transcript required from the school.
►Have lived for at least six months in Columbia, Westchester, Rockland, or Putnam County..
►Have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and apprentice school.
►Be physically able to do the work.
►Be willing to join the Union and sign and comply with an indenture agreement if accepted for the program.

Local 19 will be recruiting linoleum, resilient tile and carpet layer apprentices from Jan. 3 through December 30, 2008.  Applications will be available from the following Union locations:
52 Stone Castle Road in Rock Tavern, NY on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1 - 4 pm 
27 Warehouse Row, Albany, every Thursday, from noon to 4 pm
21 Jet View Drive, Rochester, every third Tuesday, from 9 am to noon
3195 Vickery Road, Syracuse, the first Thursday of the month, from 1 - 4 pm.
Local 19 will also be recruiting carpenter apprentices Jan. 3 through Dec. 30, 2008.  Applications for the carpentry apprenticeships will only be available from the Local at 52 Stone Castle Road in Rock Tavern, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1 to 4 pm.
Requirements for both apprenticeship recruitments include:

Live within Allegany, Cattaraugus or Chautauqua Counties..
Be willing to attend apprentice school for one week in Rochester.
►Be physically able to do the work as determined by a physician.

The Empire State Carpenters Apprenticeship Committee for Local 281 (Elmira) will be recruiting carpentry apprentices through September 17, 2008. Applications are available at the Local's Office at 181 Industrial Park Road in Horseheads, NY from 8 am to 3:30 pm the second and third Wednesdays of each month.
Local 281 will accept apprenticeship applications at its office at 23 Market St. in Binghamton, NY from 8 am to noon on the the second and third Wednesday of each month from Nov. 14, 2007- Oct. 15, 2008.
Local 281 is also conducting recruitment for apprentices January 8 through December 2, 2008, in Ithaca, NY.  Applications will be available at the Local, 701 West State Street, Ithaca, from noon to 4 pm, on the first Tuesday of each month.
Applicants must:
►Be at least 18 years old.
►Have a high school or general equivalency diploma – transcript or certificate    required  after acceptance into the program.
►Take a math and measurement computation test.
►Have reliable transportation to and from various job sites across south-central New York
►Sign an affidavit that they are physically capable of doing the work, which includes lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights from scaffolding and working in extreme heat and cold.
►Take a post-employment drug test at an approved facility at the Union's expense.
►Be able and willing to attend instruction for four one-week periods at an Empire State Carpenters Regional Training facility.

The Empire State Regional Council of Carpenters Local 289 will be recruiting apprentices from Feb. 5, 2008 through February 3, 2009.  Applications will be available from Local offices at:

Trott Access Center, Worksource One Center, Portage Rd and 11th Street, Niagara Falls
from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the first Tuesday of each month during the recruitment period.
Applicants must:
►Be at least 18 years old.
►Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.
►Must pass UBC Qualifying Math and Measurement Computation Test.
►Have lived within the local's geographic jurisdiction for at least six months prior to recruitment – Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming Counties.
►Be willing to attend apprentice school in Rochester.
►Have reliable transportation to and from work and school.
►Sign an affidavit stating they are physically able to do the work.
►Take a drug test at the sponsor’s expense at time of employment.

The Empire State Carpenters Apprenticeship Committee for Local 370 is  recruiting apprentices through November 29. Applications may be obtained from the Local at 27 Warehouse Row in Albany, NY during the hours of 12pm to 4 pm every Thursday during the recruitment period - excluding holidays.
Requirements for applicants include:
►Be at least 17 years old
►Have a high school or general equivalency diploma - transcript required
►Live in Albany, Fulton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Schoharie, Greene, Saratoga, Washington, or Warren County
Have transportation to various job sites and related instructional classes – signed affidavit required
Sign an affidavit stating physically able to do the work
Submit to drug screening, at the sponsor’s expense, after acceptance into the program
If a veteran, present a copy of their DD 214 after acceptance for the program
►Be willing to join the Union and sign and comply with an indenture agreement – if accepted into the program.
